Upgrading and switching plans

Checkout, switching between Pro and Business or monthly and yearly, and what a downgrade does.

1 min readUpdated

Upgrade from Settings → Plan, from the Upgrade button beside Create form, or from any Pro label in the app. Only a company’s owner and its admins can change its plan. Payment is handled by Polar, who act as the merchant of record: they take the card, add any sales tax or VAT, and send the receipt.

Switching plans

On a paid plan, pick another plan, or monthly or yearly, under Settings → Plan and confirm. It changes on the same subscription: Polar credits what is left of the period and charges the difference. Yearly is two months free.

Seats on the bill

The subscription follows the company’s members. See How seats are counted.

If a payment does not show

Polar tells Formkit the moment a payment goes through, and Formkit asks Polar again when you come back from checkout. If a company still shows the wrong plan, see I paid but my plan has not changed.

What a downgrade does

Nothing is deleted. Features outside your new plan stop: a custom domain goes back to your formkit.app link and the “Powered by Formkit” badge comes back. Everything you built or collected stays yours and exportable. Upgrade again and they come back as they were.
